I was wondering if there were any Asian Indians (dot, not the feather) going to GA-PCOM starting in August.

I read the name Raj in one of the posts, haven't heard any others yet. Just wondering...

Hey samdwi,

I just saw this post. I am Indian also. I went to the FA meeting in April. There were about 7 or so Indians at the meeting. It seems that a couple more have joined the group since then. Are you from Atl.?

Raj

P.S. I met alot of interesting and nice people at the FA meeting, Desi and non-desi. I think you guys will like the make up of the class. There seemed to be people from all over the South and some from the North as well. There are many straight out of college and a few non-trads like myself.

Howdy Raj!

No, I wasn't at the FA meeting, I was accepted "after the fact". I'm from Tampa. I've heard that about 10% of all medical students in the US are of Indian origin (this is either something to be proud of or really sad - I dunno yet!) - and it seems as much from the FA meeting attendance you mentioned.

Looks like the first GA-PCOM group is going to be pretty good, everyone on SDN seems to be getting along.

I look forward to meeting all of you (and not just the desi folk) in a couple months.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Neha and have lived in GA for past 10+ yrs. I went to Georgia Tech for my undergard degree. I was present a the FA meeting but didn't see too many Indians, but i didn't stay too long. I guess we all will be meeting soon.

Hello,

I am also an Indian that will be attending gapcom, and may I add a "patel" as well! I have been in GA for a long long time. I also just graduated and am looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Hey guys,

Did you hear about the recent police raids on convenience stores in Georgia? They raided dozens of stores allegedly selling ingredients to make Meth. About 90% of the store owners were Indian.

Here is the link

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1136568.cms

It hurts to read. After all the hard work we Indians put in to earning a repuation in this country, a few idiots go and blow it (allegedly). I'm Gujarati, and most of these dingbats were Gujarati, so its a double-whammy for us Gujus.

Just wanted to welcome you guys to PCOM's Georgia campus. I just finished my first year at PCOM-Philly. If your curriculum is anything like ours, I am confident that you will truly enjoy your time as an MS-1.

On a sidenote, if you're a Raghav fan or just want to watch some interesting/funny desi shows online, check out:

Take care!

I am going to post this on the class thread, too. Just wanted to let you know that I received a message from Aisha that says our orientation begins on Wednesday, August 10. She is working on a schedule. See you then.

Thought I'd fire this old thread up again, see if it sticks.

Hey,

I am on the waiting list for GA-PCOM...let's see what happens..if all goes well i will be starting in the August of 2006 and I am Desi but a Sindhi..🙂

If you could help me out I had some questions for you:
1). Know of any nice apts that are walking distance to PCOM? Know anyone that needs a roommate?
2). How did you guys make your decision to attend PCOM? I mean you didn't have any past graduates to question on their experiences?
3). Is PCOM now accredited?
4). Do you know anything about residencies for international students?

I would greatly appreciate any advice you have to offer. As i am new to this site, i would love if you could email me at [email protected]
thanksssssssss a lotttttttt

Fellow sindhi here! As you may be able to tell from my last name.
Very exciting, there are not many of us, all these patels takin over.
Unfortunately there are no apts within walking distance. A couple people own townhouses that may be renting a room, you can talk to Angela about this as well as for people who need a roommate. You could also think about buying a place yourself. There are, however, many apt complexes within 10 min drive, and I don't know where you are from, but they are fairly cheap.

GAPCOM is now fully accredited, same accreditation as PCOM Philly.

I am not sure I understand your last question, international student or foreign medical graduate?

Hey Islandbabe,

arajani's room-mate here, ditto what he said.

For roommates, try to call Angela Dickson (student affairs), she has a list of students looking for roommates.

Our decisions to come to GA-PCOM were many, and it varies on who you ask - new school, location, PCOM name, Dr. Evans and Watson, and so on. But yes, it was still was quite a risk accepting to go to a school which didn't exist yet. It wasn't an easy decision unless GA-PCOM was the only school one was accepted into. Many of us had other options to choose from.

I do urge you to ask all of us any questions you have, and do the same at other schools too, so you can make an informed, if not unbiased, decision.

Oh, also, DO NOT LIVE AT STERLING RIVERSIDE APTS. Try "The Preserve". If you do sign a lease at any of these two places though, be sure to mention myself and my roommate because we get a referral fee.
