Four identical 1.0 L flasks contain the following gases each at 0 degree celcius and 1 atm pressure. Which gas has the lowest density?

A. He
B. Cl2
C. CH4
D. C3H6
E. All gases above have the same density.

Correct Answer: B

My answer is A. Please explain. Thanks.

ideal gas law, 1 mol / 22.4 L

so it is

(1.0L x 1/22.4 x mass/1)/volume for density. So higher the mass of the molecule, the more dense the system.

I picked A too... since it is the lightest, with least mass.

I googled your question, and there is a AP chem quiz pdf on it. The answer is B because it was asking for the one that is MOST dense.
