I was gratefully accepted into both schools and live in NE Pa roughly in the middle between the two schools. Therefore, at either school I would be close to family, and have connections at each. I was leaning towards Geisinger because of Abigail Scholars program, but other than that I am stuck between the two.

Abigail Scholars program basically forces you to go into primary care and work in that field for 4 years in Scranton. If you’re interested in primary care and don’t mind working in Scranton for 4 years after residency, I’d say choose Geisinger and enjoy the full scholarship.

However, I personally like to keep an open mind about what specialty I’m interested in so Abigail sounds a bit restrictive to me, but the choice is yours 🙂

To add to the above, Geisinger as an employer may already offer loan repayment agreements if you were interested in working there later. You would have more flexibility then to explore other specialities at Temple.

The Abigail program applies to all locations, so graduates are not locked into Scranton, but can go to any of Geisinger's regional locations (e.g., Danville, Wyoming Valley, etc.)
