So, I currently attend UC Irvine and decided on the pre-PT path pretty recently. I was taking a look at the PTCAS and school pre-req requirements and I'm a little confused about Biology I & II w/ lab. From my understanding, it's supposed to be your intro to bio courses with lab. However at UCI, the intro freshman bio courses didn't have labs!

For reference our intro to bio courses were Bio93 (DNA To Organisms) and Bio94 (Organisms to Ecosystems) which didn't have lab. I've also taken Molecular Bio, Biochemistry, Physio (w/lab), and Anatomy (w/lab). I'm planning on taking Mol bio lab and Biochem lab. Would I be able to use these two courses as my Bio I & II w/lab?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! 🙂

I think you would have to contact each individual program and ask. I know that some programs clearly state not to use upper level courses in place of your into classes but you would probably be an exception. I'm sure they are familiar with this and will give you a clear answer. Good luck!

I went to UC irvine too but I majored in Econ. You can take the general bio course at saddleback community college which is only 15 mins away. I took all my pre reqs there and at Irvine Valley College

A lot of schools also let you substitute microbiology and zoology for bio 1 and bio 2... Look at ptcas for each program and they will list courses accepted for every pre req

As for biochem, many schools I've seen only accept it as a substitute for chemistry

There are also a number of schools that don't require bio as a pre-req.
