So I just bought my Campbell Biology textbook and it's 1500 pages. I'm going to be a freshman this fall and was wondering, over the course of gen bio 1&2, do we go through this whole entire book? Or do we focus on some chapters and skip others. Just curious.

Def not the whole thing. It depends, but in many gen bio classes, the best way to do well is to focus on material discussed in lecture and ppt slide and pretty much ignore reading the book. But I'm sure you will find out upon starting the class.

For my school we went through the whole thing except for one chapter in the back. It sucked.

Totally varies by school and teacher. I took general biology and never bought/used the textbook.

In my school we didn't read the whole book. We just read specific chapters, we even skip the intro to bio chapter. Weird, I know.

You will skip around in both classes and probably use only 45% of the book. This is how we did it. You may use it for genetics as well.

🙂 I just got my Cambell Biology Book too! At my school, we cover the first 20 chapters in Bio 1 and the next 19 in Bio 2.

I think I got my Campbell's edition off tpb...

I prefer Biology by Brooker.

My college has a personalized textbook, made specifically for Gen Bio I, which was taken from Campbell biology for only the chapters we covered. I just took the class and we covered Chapter 1-10, 12-17, and 20.

Of course it varies from college to college.
