In the Acid Base reaction, why do we switch all the ions in the reaction after the reactants dissociate. I know that we should just memorize, but I am wondering about the reason.

In dissociation reactions, an acid will give up its proton(s) so that a base who wants this proton more can receive it.

Since a proton is a positive charge, for every proton an acid loses it gains a -1 charge and for every proton a base gains it gains a +1 charge.
