My test is a month away and I am still struggling with this subject (scoring about ~19 on BC practice tests). I have done about 200 questions from destroyer, but i was wondering if it would be better to just review Mike's Videos and go over his questions again? Gen chem was my least favorite subject so I am having a hard time making the material stick. ANY tips would be appreciated 🙂

Gen Chem is really hard because it's both memorization and application! I read a blogpost the other day saying that there are 3 steps to learning – primary learning (books/videos), retention (making sure you remember what you learned), and application (practice questions), and a lot of us skip step 2, going straight to practice questions. But it's a waste of PQs to do them before you have the necessary knowledge in your mind. So I think you're right, you need to go back and review. I suggest making flashcards from the videos, or using ASDA's Gen Chem flashcards – if you only need to study for a month, you can subscribe for one month and pay less than $10: ⚡ DAT Flashcards The nice thing about those is that it tracks your strengths and weaknesses, so you can focus on things you keep getting wrong. Then once you feel like you know the material, go back to doing practice questions! Good luck!

General Chemistry is the easiest section to make improvements on if you know what you're doing, so don't be too worried. When I was studying, I went through Chad's videos twice. Once simply watching to understand the concepts and taking the associated quizzes. My second go around was used to take detailed notes on concepts I felt I needed improvement on. I suggest writing these notes in your best handwriting to encourage future review. Once you have been through Chad's videos twice, review your detailed chem notes every two or three days by simply reading through them and making sure you understand every single concept. If there is a concept you are unsure on, go back and review Chad's video for that topic again. Let nothing get past you! Immediately after each review, do a Bootcamp practice exam. Once the practice exam is complete, go through each missed problem (and any problems you are the slightest bit unsure on) and watch Mike's video solution. In my opinion (I know MANY will disagree), DAT Destroyer for Gen Chem is overkill unless you are shooting for the Ivy League schools. I scored a 24 with this method and couldn't have felt more confident in gen chem walking into my exam.

The DAT Destroyer will prepare you for whatever version of GC you encounter on test day. Taking a short cut could end in disaster. All students are not alike and some have stronger foundations than others and require a different study path. DAT Destroyer was designed for students who want to avoid a retake and Destroy the DAT on round 1.

Feel free to message me and I will be happy to discuss this further.
