BklynWill said:chem is important for understanding the pH balance and osmotic gradients pertinent to homeostasis.
That was me trying to sound smart.
I think physics rears its ugly head much more often than chem in medical school.
OSUdoc08 said:I never understand osmosis or pH balance in undergrad chemistry and I did just fine with it in medical school. They just explain it differently, and in a more understandable way.
BklynWill said:yes, another reason why med school rocks and college sucks. You know in India you can go to medical college right out of high school? Imagine being a DO/MD at 21.
BklynWill said:Indian docs in the U.S. have to complete a U.S. residency regardless of their previous experience so I would not worry about that, at least while you're here in the U.S.
OSUdoc08 said:You could do just as well in medical school without having taken either of those courses.
The only chemistry in medical school is easy enough that you don't need to have any prior knowledge to understand it.
Undecided12 said:This is surprising. I've always heard about people having a difficult time with biochem in medical school.
So then what classes really ARE required? Maybe all the bio classes?
OSUdoc08 said:Biochem is the easiest class at our school in the first semester. Most people spend all of their time on anatomy and histology.
cabinbuilder said:Wow, I Wish. Biochem is the KILLER course at LECOM behind Anatomy. There are so many people who fail biochem and have to remediate here. If you fail the biochem remediation class in the summer then you have to repeat the first year over or be dismissed. I think in my class about 45 students remediated biochem and 2 had to rpt the year.
OSUdoc08 said:I think the class average in our biochem class on the first exam was a 97.
That sucks!
