Hi,

Kind of a weird situation here. I'm planning on taking the MCAT the summer after my junior year.
I've taken one semester of gen bio and had AP bio before that, and just couldn't fit in the second semester so it's kind of lingering around, and I have seen all the material before in AP.
I will have taken physiology, genetics, physics, ochem, and genchem before I take the MCAT, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to cram gen bio 2 in with physics and biochemistry before I take the MCAT, or whether it would be worth it to take biochemistry with gen bio 2.

I'm really not keen on taking physics, gen bio 2, and biochemistry all at the same time just for the sake of my GPA.

Thoughts?

That's a tough question to answer because every school likely has variable material in bio 2. From my perspective, even though my bio 2 was mostly evolution/diversity/ecology type topics, I still would not have wanted to take the mcat without it.

Ok this is highly variable between schools. One thing that is standard is schools divide bio into a macro study: evolution, ecology, organ systems, plants, punnet square genetics etc. and a micro study: cellular respiration, photosynthesis, enzymes, big 3 DNA pathways, cell bio etc.

Ive said this a lot on here but it's just my opinion. The recents MCATs IMO are a lot more molecular. They focus on things like the big 3 DNA/RNA processes and want you to be able to deduce what will happen to the cell if there's a mutation in a tissue what % of the offspring will have it (none as lone as it wasn't in the germ line). Things like that are usually covered in bio II and I wouldn't recommend you taking the MCAT without bio II.. Also they do talk about hormones or things like hormones that you're probably not familiar with and they will be like this molecule inhibits this and activates that. Then they'll ask you something related to it. All that kind of stuff is bio II.

I said bio II is molecular cus that's what is at my school.
