Which species has this ground state arrangement?

a. Ni
b. Ni^2+
c. Zn
d. Zn^2+

I thought it was Zn, but the ans key says Zn^2+

Zinc 2+ would be missing the 4s2 orbital electrons - therefore that is the correct answer. Elemental Zn would have a 4s2 before that 3d10.
 
sorry for my lack of knowledge, but if Zn -> Zn^2+ then it going to have same amount of electrons as Ni. Can you explain it to me in more details. if possible?
