can you send different versions of your PS to different programs? for example, if you're applying to derm, can you send all the chicago programs a "i love the midwest because i was born & raised here" letter and all the NY programs a "i did an away rotation here and fell in love with the city" letter? just curious. i have different reasons for wanting to be in different cities, and i'd be equally happy in several places, so i'd want to let different programs know why i'm interested in their location.

Yes.

You can have a separate PS for every program to which you apply. In ERAS you enter a PS and label it 'x'. You can then have y, z, etc. In your case simply name them, "PS for Chicago", and "PS for NY". This way it will be easy to assign them to the correct programs.

Good Luck.

just don't get them mixed up. You always hear stories from PDs about people who send the wrong letters to the wrong departments, e.g. I love derm going to your IM program and vice versa.

do you really need to state in your PS why you'd like to be in that location? I thought it would be enough to say why you like their particular program.
