Hi there, I am a 3rd year Med student and I have some fairly naive questions to ask.
First of all, when we are doing residency, lets suppose IM, do we have to give exams every year, or is there any semester system? Or do we just work for given years and end up giving license exam. This question is directed for residencies in US/UK/Aus
Secondly, how easily are maternity leave available in pediatrics/IM/Ophthalmology in US/Aus?
Sorry for asking such generalized questions, but I need some answers to these questions. Thanks 🙂

During training, you have annual in service exams - while these aren't meant to be counted against you, they often are, in various flavors.

You will need to complete all 3 steps of the USMLE licensing exam - each state/system you work in will have specific rules with regards in time alloted for completing it.

The only final exam(s) you'll need to worry about after training will be board certification.

Maternity leave will need to be arranged by your specific program - let them know you particular situation and work with them in how to best resolve it. Not too big of a deal really.
