Forgive the stupideeity:
That being said I am coming from another profession. If I take my MCAT in April what time line should I set in terms of Applications etc i.e.. when is the soonest I could be actually in a medical program. I graduated in 2002 with a strong scholastic foundation and experience the only variable I have missing is the gd-MCATs. I have considered foreign program but I am trepidatious of their reputation and its implication on my future resident placement. Many thx for any general or direct feedback.

If you take the April 2006 MCAT, you would be looking at applying during summer/fall/winter 2006 for the entering class of 2007 (or later, most schools accept MCAT scores going back three years).

Good luck! :luck:

Apply in late spring/early fall for an admission to a class starting in fall of the next year. AMCAS generally opens for data entry in early May and you can submit in early June. Have your letters of recommendation lined up, that's often one of the tougher parts for a non-trad. Many schools want a pre-med committee letter and your alma mater may write one for you (mine did), but you have to arrange an interview or whatever they require.

Thx-
Regarding the AMCAS and the pre-med committee letter I have a tentative idea about these things... could you please elaborate... I am pretty disconected from my alma mater... your karma points will increase exponentially
😕

In my case I'm finishing my pre-reqs at a community college, but the med schools I want to go to accept LORs from the cc's. Plus, I will have LORs from people who can speak for my clinical work, and I may get a LOR from a doctor in the area of the schools I will apply to (after some shadowing).

Hope that helps

I assume that is where you got all your pre-recs from? Or have you attended another university more recently?

Let me rephrase my time line question bare w/ me. Right now my objectives are.

1.April:take MCATS
2.Following:fill out AMCAS

That being said my knowledge of the AMCAS is somewhat limited. I understand that I will enter my credits letters of recommendation personal statement etc... what are the things I should square away for the AMCAS. My understanding is they act as an aggregate and send out all the info to the respective med schools. Are there supplemental forms for each med program... I also notice that there weren't any DO schools... does one apply to those separately.... can one start to compile a general list of stuff to "cut and paste" to other program.... many thanks for your time

As for supplemental forms - I know some schools have secondary applications (you'll hear people on here call them scondaries). Those vary by school. Also if you're thinking about Texas schools they're on a different system. As far as I know AMCAS is only the allopathic schools but I could be wrong. You'll have to get a response from someone already applying for more details on how AMCAS works.
