Management of the Patient With Acute Disease X
This chapter will discuss the Emergency Department management of the patient who presents with acute disease X. Disease X has a long history with many interesting facets and is of particular importance to Emergency Physicians. The differential diagnosis for disease X includes every pathologic process known to man from acromeagly to Zenkers diverticulum and possibly some veterinary diseases as well. Disease X can present in any of a continuum of severities ranging from asymptomatic to death. When faced with a patient with acute disease X therapy must be initiated as soon as possible. After initial stabilization has been initiated emergent consults should be obtained from several specialties which are not available at your facility.
