One of the best ways for a woman to join a good ole boy network is to be a great golfer... and smoke cigars with em and beat them at golf badly.

I lost to a woman once.. in 1996... I respect that..

Yeah...that ain't happening.

Hmm, just got me thinking. Wonder when I'll pick it up again...maybe soon. Just for kicks, of course.

Because that always works..

Don't make me list all the LASA brand drugs old man. I'll kick your ass.

:meanie:

I do hope there are more than 1 steps to correctly identifying drugs at your work place.

So you're going to stock Lanoxin, Digoxin, and Digitek under "L" or 3 separate places?

Actually LASA labels are a damn good way of preventing errors in a hospital setting. It depends on each institution's policy but more often than not, drug labels and medication administration record are all "labeled" with flashing "LASA" notifications. We've been onto LASA for a long time since TJC been beating us up..

You'll die trying. There are more chances of an error your way as if there is a generic for the brand, there will be LASA1 Brand LASA1 Generic and LASA2 Brand.....

There are enough checks & balances in the CVS system that when the tech gives me a wrong drug, I'm pretty pissed as they circumvented several steps in order to deliver the wrong medication to me....

No they are all going under L, because both Digoxin and Digitek are generics of Lanoxin. Just because a generic has name brand, like Digitek or Levoxyl or whatever *****ic name Upsher Smith gave their Warfarin.... doesn't mean it's not a generic.

Dammit. Do I have to learn to play golf now?

Can't you people like some other old man sport like bowling instead?

CVS has had this for years. Blue dividers for LASA drugs and bright shelf stickers that basically say "*****, make sure you have the correct drug."

Not a LASA list but a confused name list but you'll see just as many LASA brand drugs. More chances you speak of..again, Orange LASA label does just fine. I have not seen an error involving LASA since we started the process in 1999.

Then you got nothing to worry about. Then it's irrelevant how you have your shelves set up as long as you keep working with incompetent people.

We rarely ever stock brand drug that has a generic counterpart unless brand is really cheap... happens some but not often.

Your point?

It's too late for you... I have not known anyone who started golf at late age who actually become good at it... very rare.

It can't be that hard.

If I can cross people with a basketball and make them fall down, I can hit a little white ball close to a hole in the ground.

golf is the most frustrating game for accomplished or somewhat decent athletes. Because success came easy on the field or court, they expect to master golf..

It will break your heart. Trust me.

I just have one question...so where do you put NaCl tabs? Under Thermotabs, Salt tabs, NaCl, or Sodium Choride?

Thermotabs were only OTC and NaCL tabs were kept in tbe Rx section under S.

S as in salt? :meanie:

Inpatient pharmacy rarely separates OTC vs. RX drugs. Also drugs are mostly stocked according to generic names. If your retail practice is different and if it works better that way then don't change your practice.

That's the point. You're a guy. No need.

You really need to beat a guy at golf to get ahead? If you do, it's time for a new employer. If they would promote someone of lesser ability because they have a better short game.......

No not quite.

Networking is an important part of work. More often than not, fund raiser golf tournaments are a great opportunities to not only mingle with people you work with but also your clients and vendors.

Women can tee off from women's tees in a scramble which provides a huge advantage if she is a decent golfer. And no one likes playing with a hacker..even a hacker.

But good female golfers are a rarity... and when we do find a woman who can swing a driver, they're looked upon favorably to be a part of the scramble team.

I won my pharmacy school golf tournament during P3... and that's when the profs realized who I was more so than my scholastic aptitude or the lack of.

Also as an evening staff pharmacist straight out of school, I was invited to be on the hospital's scramble team with the CEO because they heard the rumor I can hit a ball... we won that tournament and that's helped me to get to know the hospital admin. I can give you more examples...

I didn't golf to get ahead.

Golf helped me get ahead.

No. But any little thing that allows you to bond, and get into that tight knit [macho] circle helps.

There's other ways to do it too though...

i cant believe you fools jacked this all important thread.

well, for starters, I drink my whiskey neat.

Neat bourbon 👍

Though I usually take my cue from what he's ordering in this type of scenario. Not to say I order the same...but you can tell a lot about a guy based on what they order. Classic gin...whiskey on the rocks, wine, etc.

You have to pick up on all the hints.

Well...right now we're just talking about specific scenario where as a female, trying to "hang" with the men. You have to remain distinct yet on par...intriguing but not intimidating.

But heck, if we're just friends and hanging out...or getting to know a guy personally, I'm completley myself. I don't play the games. And if Natty Ice is your drink of choice...then go for it. 😉

So to get ahead I have to drink fine spirits and play golf?

Dude...I'm so screwed.

No, you can always make it up with progressive and innovative pharmacy work. But life is not as interesting that way.

Here's an email I sent to my buddies recently. If you're a golfer, you may find it humorous.

Many of you may not know it, but I have been very busy over the last 2 years putting my thoughts and ideas together in a book.
