Hey all, i wanted to know if i can get some advice.

I was deciding on either taking genetics or A&P 1 this semester. I only need 2 science classes, (finished my lab requirements so only need two 3 credit classes) so I want to know which class do you guys think would be more necessary and which class do you guys recommend for dental schools and DAT?

If i take A&P it will be a little overkill because then i will probably also take A&P 2 next semester because i might as well do both, but then that will be 2 extra lab classes that i don’t really need. But again if it is highly recommended then i wouldn’t mind doing that at all.

Thanks guys!!

IMHO, A&P is more beneficial once you get into dental school because of the difficult gross anatomy course that they have, although I'm not in DS, that's what I hear. I had to take both A&P in addition to Genetics and Genetics was literally a blitzkrieg of useless information 90% of the time with 10% of the time it being applicable to everyday life, cool examples etc. On the other hand, A&P was extremely interesting to me because all of the body's functions and then you really saw it hands on during anatomy, especially the lab. Physio lab was okay, but anatomy was very eye-opening. Both of the classes tend to be memorization based, Genetics might incorporate more conceptual thinking, but my vote lies on A&P. Also some DS require or HIGHLY RECOMMEND A&P so take that into account 😉

A&P was recommended to our Pre-Dental Club over genetics by a visiting dean of admissions because it was much more useful in dental school. I agree that it was interesting to learn, and I genuinely enjoyed the class.

My school offers it in 1 class, its not Anatomy 1 class and another class Physiology, its both of them together.

Is that uncommon?

100% A&P

Both are incredibly beneficial for the DAT. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either.
