Hi,
I'm a high school senior right now and looking at colleges to go to. I'm trying to decide whether I want to do genetics or biochemistry. Will medical schools look at the two equally? Which one is easier(or is more likely to end in me getting the higher GPA)? Which major covers more material on the MCAT?

bioc is covered more on MCAT and the difficulty of the subject depends on you and how the school teaches it.
medical schools don't really care about what major you had as long as you finished your prereqs.
Pick a major you like!

I would be fairly certain that these degrees are nearly identical in regards to courses and material covered.
Both will cover plenty for the MCAT
Both will look the same towards med school
If you pick Genetics you should also take Biochem
If you pick Biochem you should also take a Genetics

I would suggest majoring in nuclear engineering. You need to show them that you can perform! 4.0 minimum. Honors classes only. You should by application time have 4-5 1st author credentials in high impact factor journals such as Nature and Cell, a remarkable act of selflessness such as setting up a microlending platform for the poor African people that only you can help, clinical volunteering on the front line of the Rohingya refugee crisis, etc. that you will need to consider while taking classes. Good luck.

There’s gonna be a lot of overlap between the two majors.

Your courses will split when you take your upper levels.

If you go biochem, you will have to take classes like analytical chemistry and physical chemistry.

In genetics, you will probably take more microbio classes like virology, immunology, etc.

Just pick whichever seems more interesting to you. In both cases you will take biochem, genetics, and organic chemistry.
