I am currently one of the Chief Residents for an internal medicine program. We are in the process of changing our GIM inpatient rotations to a format which is geographic coverage/admissions. This is being done at the request of the hospitalist/teaching attendings.
I am interested to hear about your program if you also follow a geographic system for your inpatient GIM months.
Some of my concerns include:
1. Effect on resident education
2. Continuity of care - both from the residents perspective as well as from a patient's perspective
3. Limiting the number of hand-offs
Any experience/opinions would be helpful. Thanks.
