I have just been accepted into the CAM Masters at Georgetown and was wondering if anyone else would be attending.

Also if any previous students of the program would like to comment on the program.

🙂

I applied to this program since FEBRUARY! I have not been able to get a hold of anyone, especially Ms Cabiness who is supposed to be the contact. She emailed me about missing GRE scores then finds them after I send her another copy. It seems disorganized and scary at the same time. Its so FRUSTRATING that I do not know how they keep my file and I cannot reach anyone.
Also, I have applied so long ago and still not a word! I don't even know if they are reviewing my file yet. What if the class fills up?? someone please help me on how to go about this, I am on my wits end.

It will be nice to also get more information from past participants, and help with the decision making. Any success stories? and if yes, what were your experiences and stats?

Are there any other threads for this?

I just graduated from the program this year and had an unbelievable time. This is not a traditional post-bac program that teaches you things you will again learn in med school. It is rather a program that gives you an overview of other health care modalities, the tools to critically evaluate research (both CAM and conventional) and provides a sound foundation in physiology. It is a very unique educational experience that will teach you, according to me, essential things regarding the health care field that is not necessarily taught anywhere else. In this sense, rather than honing you into medical school, this program opens up opportunities in research, policy, alternative medicines, as well as providing valuable information for anyone heading to medical school.

Now onto the good part, it is a program that allows you to have a little bit more freedom and social life. Having the 30 person limit creates a very personal tight-knit group. Also, the directors and coordinators will be there for you every step of the way only if you ask. On the other hand, it is still a young program in ever evolving field so many things, including the curriculum, change to improve the program.

For anyone that is interested, there is a new facebook page (
Georgetown University Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) MS) where you can find some resources and post any questions that you want answered by current and past students regarding this program.

I'll be attending! Love the campus, love the people, and love the area. So excited.

Hi All,
I also recently graduated from this program, and while I did have a great experience in the 2010-2011 year, there are significant changes happening to the program that you should be aware of. Due to unprofessional politics between faculty in the program, the directors have removed some of the most valuable classes from the curriculum out of personal animosity towards the professors who were teaching these courses. The critical readings course was by far the best course in the program, and it is being removed, along with the history of medicine course and herbology course (now only offered as electives). Moreover, the directors are largely attempting to sway students from the practice of biomedicine, and are targeting admissions towards those who do NOT express interest in medical school. Not only does this defeat the purpose of creating a more integrated and open-minded medical world, but it is also misleading to a lot of you who are probably entering this program for a post-bacc or pre-medical learning experience.
For those of you considering the program in the future - I would urge you to call the directors and speak more frankly about the changes being made. For those of you already going next year, don't be afraid to fight for the changes you would like to see!
