I need some advice from anyone in the program...i currently have a bad gpa, but i've turned it around and been getting a's in upper division science courses. the problem is that even if i go to the unit maximum and get straight a's across the board, i'll still be under the 3.0. i have solid mcats(13P,10V,10B for a 33), do you guys think my mcats and my upward academic trend will get me in? i know the SMP program at Georgetown is exactly what i need to show medical schools i can take the load. im unbelievably motivated to get into the program, im just scared that they wont be able to see past my dark years(MANY d's and c's). is there any advice anyone can give me? thank you all so much!

Palm, I am not "in" the program yet, but I have been accepted for next year. I was below a 3.0 (2.95) but had a good MCAT (36). So, I know it *can* be done.

The question is, how far below 3.0 is your GPA and how does the rest of you look? (and btw, I would think that 33 is better than just "solid")

Georgetown does not base entry/denial on pure numbers. They have a cutoff of 3.0 and some MCAT number (can't recall offhand) but if you are a strong enough candidate in other areas, they will look past "deficiencies."

I would focus on making your application show that you are a better student now than you were before, and that you can clearly handle the course load in a medical school. That is their biggest concern. MCAT and GPA are the easiest/fastest way to answer that question, which is why they use them as standards.

Also, there is a yahoo group for the G-town program. Dr. Myers, who is the director of the program, checks it daily, it seems. I would email him on that group and pose the question to him. He will let you know if you have a great/good/bad/no chance of being accepted.

good luck to you and please let us know how you do.
