Any nontrads out there participating this summer?

looks interesting, but if i read it correctly, it would cost me about $3700 if i wanted to just take a physiology course with lab for just 6 weeks? that doesn't include housing either. that is just too much!

Here is aamc list of similar classes being offered during the summer. Some are a little cheaper than GT.

I'd imagine that these types of courses are available at most medical schools for students to "make-up" med school coursework. My understanding is that they have a seperate program for medical students making up coursework at Georgetown. However, the GMSI at Georgetown Med is different with activities geared toward premeds/current med school applicants. It doesn't appear to be popular here this year but expensive or not ,given all the benefits of the program well beyond taking actual med school courses, I'd imagine that will soon change!

FYI, I'll post my experiences in the program in my dairy! 😉

Yes, most are for make up, but others require no pre-requisites (just an application and your money), so if you want to take the course just for the experience or for preparation, you may do so.

I will be checking on your post, as I was about to sign up for the medical biochem, but then I got into the pre-matriculation program at my med school.

I didn't realize it was this easy at a lot of schools to take med school classes. I've taken a few in the past as a graduate student but I thought that was the only way. Sounds like a no branier to me for folks like myself who need to test the water a bit and/or improve thier apps to med school.

My first choice for a summer med school type program was the one at Howard which students take along with prematriculation med students, but the director told me they had a strict requirement of students living in campus dorms during thier time in the program. Seems like an odd requirement especially for someone like me who lives locally and has a family.

Can I assume you're headed to med school in the Fall? If so where? Send me a PM if you prefer! Either way, good luck to you!

yeah, i agree, it seems somewhat pricey. any assistanships available?

Just to give some info after my first week, most (I'd say 80%) of the students in the program are med students at schools across the US. The rest of us are future med students. 😉 Thus, the classes are exactly the SAME as the ones taught during the normal school year, using the same syllabus, books, time in lecture/labs.ect.

So no there aren't assistantships, just as there aren't assistships for med students during the normal school year. Time constraints just wouldn't allow it.
