Program-Specific Info / Q's Georgia state ot program

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied to Georgia State as well have not heard anything maybe we will hear something around the 1st of March has anyone called or contacted them?

They are not holding interviews. He said they will be letting people know of acceptance in march or April.

I applied as well. Georgia State sent decision letters last Friday (3/24).

I saw on their website that they would be letting us know via email. Did anyone else get a letter in the mail? I haven't heard anything yet!

It was both an email and a letter via snail mail.

Same here, I got an email about 2 weeks ago and a letter in the mail. They have to know by April 12th so they'll open up more spots after that date when some people decline, so no worries!

I just got an email this evening, saying I was put on the waiting list. How many people are actually considering attending being that they aren't accredited yet?

I got an email this morning saying that I'm on the wait list as well.

I'd love to know how many people on here are going to accept from the first wave.

Me too. Congrats to those who received an acceptance! I wish they told us how many people were on the waitlist. Does anyone have an idea? I was thinking the same amount of people as the incoming cohort.

Yeah that makes sense but I'm not a Georgia resident and I got accepted at a school in my state so applying to out of state schools was my backup
I've already accepted a spot at another school too, but being accepted here is like 10xs more affordable so I'm still considering it.

How do you all feel about the classes starting on May 15th?That's so quick especially if we find out later about acceptance

It's SO SOON. I don't even graduate until May 9th so starting the 15th is so soon, on the bright side I think it will be a nice way to ease into the program and get to know people. I know regular classes at Georgia State don't start until June 6th or so. Im wondering if they're starting so early so maybe we will have a little more time off for the 4th of July or something.

I don't like the quick turn around, more so because they haven't even finalized their incoming class yet. I mean they've had plenty of time to figure this out, good grief the deadline was in January. And for them to wait until April to make decisions is scary. I hope this doesn't speak to how disorganized the program maybe. 😱.

I accepted in the first wave! I'd already accepted a spot at another school, but Georgia State is 10x more affordable (in-state tuition) and was a first choice, so I opted to go to GSU instead of the other school. The program not being accredited yet doesn't really frighten me at all as this program has been in its pre-planning stages for years now, and in speaking with the fieldwork coordinator last year, it seems like they know what they're doing in terms of what has to get done to become accredited. As for starting classes May 15th, I don't know how I feel about it. I've been out of school for a semester now, so I've had time off. May is an awkward time to start, though.

Did you have to do face to face interview or skype for gsu?

The fieldwork coordinator said she doesnt know where to place people and was going to look at places applicants did observations. Since contact info is on there already.

I'm not surprised to hear they are reaching out to sites where applicants did observations. When I spoke with her and we were talking about observations, she wrote down my two Georgia sites. If I had to guess, many OT programs, when starting, do a similar sort of thing. Georgia has a lot of opportunities and few programs, though, so I don't think they'll have issue finding everyone fieldwork sites for Level I and Level II. GSU's college of nursing and health sciences has a good track record as a whole, so I'm still not really worried about them not being accredited yet, plus if the OT program doesn't run classes through, they can't get their accreditation anyway. There will be a learning curve to some of it, and I'm alright with that, which is why I accepted my seat.

Also, there were no interviews for this round, likely because there was such a quick turnaround. My guess is, the class for Fall 2018 will be the first class with interviews.

Has anyone on the waitlist heard anything?

I've called a few times but haven't gotten in touch with anyone. I want to know how many people are on the waitlist!

They said in the letter that they had to know by April 12th so they probably won't call any waitlist people until after that date

Hello all- I am a GA State alum and currently live in Georgia so I have had the opportunity to speak with many OT's about the chances of their OT program receiving accreditation. Every single person I have spoken to has no doubt the program will be accredited due to the success and ranking of the PT program. I went to an information session and was really intrigued with the program and excited at the idea of going there for grad school. Unfortunately, too many of my classes have "expired" by their definition so I wasn't able to apply without re-taking entry level courses again.

I wish anyone that decides to go the best of luck! I can't say I loved going to school at GA State but I love living in Atlanta!

Hello I applied and have not heard anything can someone give me a valid number to contact them

There is a number on their website under the admissions tab, but for reference, it's 404-413-1446. I don't know who it connects to, but it's what's there. You can also call the College of Nursing and Health Professions itself, and they'll connect you through to someone in OT. I did it that way once before phone numbers were put on their website, and it works as well as calling the OT department directly. Status check has also updated to reflect Fall 2017 decisions (or at least acceptances), so if you haven't heard anything, you could also look on their status check system to see if your decision has updated. I discovered that last night when I went to retrieve my ID number. Hope this helps!

Has anyone heard any more news? I'm on the wait list and haven't heard anything. Classes start in a month !

I'm applying to GA stats new OT program but I made a C in my a&p 2 do you think this will disqualify me? Good luck everyone!

Hi Everyone!!! I'm looking for information on the new GSU OT program. Did the people on this thread get accepted? Also, being that it is a new program how is everyone's experience so far? It would be great to hear y'all thoughts. Thanks!

Hey! I’m in the class that just started. I absolutely LOVE the program. There is no doubt that it will be accredited this year.
The program does not start until fall 2018 but there are two prereqs (gross anatomy and medical conditions in ot) that need to be taken in the summer semester. Failure to successfully complete these will disqualify an applicant from beginning in the fall.
Overall, the program is great, professors are great, and location and price are a plus!! I feel so blessed to be an OT Student at GSU!
