I just saw a UWorld question which said an obese woman is diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 12 weeks gestational age???

According to Kaplan notes, the screening for all pregnant women is at 24 to 28 weeks when the hPL effect is maximal. However the patients with risk factors are screened at the first prenatal visit, and then repeated.

But at what gestational age can you say this is gestational diabetes, vs saying this is preexisting diabetes in a pregnant woman???

24-28 weeks is for general screening when someone is asymptomatic

If someone is having symptoms i imagine they could also be diagnosed much earlier . If the person had no s/s of diabetes before the pregnancy and 3 months in they develop diabetes, I would say that is gestational diabetes.
