hi,
I am a non-traditional student.

I just started to prepare for whole application process for entry year of 2011.

I am going to take mcat on april and apply asap. Meanwhile, I need to find a place to volunteer/work to get exposed to medical field, as well as to get the recommendation letters.

I live in NYC. Can anyone, who knows this areas, recommend a place to get hands on experiece and recommendation letter?

Nursing homes, VA clinic, family-planning clinic, hospice, rehabilitation facility.

Average amount of clinical experience for med school applicants is 1.5 years. I'd consider a year to be the minimum. Don't forget to get in some physician shadowing.

Letters of Recommendation are best obtained from two of your science professors and one nonscience.
