I am not entirely sure if members here are being sarcastic or not but in previous threads they have said that getting a D was just as bad as committing a felony.

How bad does getting a D looking in an upper level bio class?

I will definitely be retaking it but will this be a huge red flag?

 dear god. The people on SDN never cease to amaze me.

It will definitely be a red flag, but if your overall GPA is good I'm sure that it is something that could be overcome.

Overall GPA is low for SDN standards. Had 3.3 up until now and now I will be at around 3.2.
Would a 5th year be best for my situation?

Thank you and sorry for going off topic

Nah, a single D isn't as bad as a felony... it's more like a misdemeanor. A felony is equivalent to a 3.2 GPA.

Seriously though... the D's not the issue, it's your overall track record. Bring it up! <3.4 and you're probably not going to be competitive for MD anywhere w/o an insane MCAT. You're in DO territory right now, which is fine but I would suggest getting that GPA up and being sure to do well on the MCAT.

I got an F in a 1 unit lab course because I thought I dropped it, but I didn't. Took it again and got a D. Took a 3rd time got an A lol. I also have an F in a 3 unit course which I repeated as well and obtained an A. I know AMCAS counts both, so with all courses taken considered my GPA is 3.59. Obviously my situation is going to require some serious explanation during interviews, but the rest of my application is strong and I have shown proficiency in much more difficult upper division courses of the same subject matter.

So basically I'm going to give the usual advice: demonstrate a strong upward trend, be prepared to explain this in your interview, raise your overall GPA, demonstrate proficiency with A's in upper division courses (if the course relates to your major or pre-reqs)

None of my poor grades were in a pre-req course. Obviously one should consider a D in a pre-req more damaging than in another course. I definitely suggest retaking it. Especially if you plan to apply DO because in that case your original D won't be considered and that might help your GPA out a bit.

Getting a D will ruin you. But I've gathered some great alternatives for you, if you can pay you can become an MD!

Don't worry, when you graduate the money you make will be just as green even if your degree is a joke.

lol do you post on bb.com?

What do you mean "passing"?

Isn't F=fail and anything other than F=pass?

Do you mean that a C- doesn't look good?

at my school, if you get a C- in a class that you need for your major, or a class that is a pre-requisite for another class (like bio 1 is a pre-req for bio 2), then you have to retake it. a C is passing, but a C- is not. i believe the same goes for applying to schools, from what i can remember. a C- looks better than a D, but you may have to take it again depending on the situation.

potentialdexter, You really ought to change your avatar. This girl just walked by my computer at the library and gave me the "you are a creep looking at male porn in the library" look. 👎

(and if it is not you, why on earth did you choose that pic)

Sorry for embarrassing you. I am interested in bodybuilding and wished to show off my physique. U mad?

Oh I see what you mean. Thanks for clarifying. I was planning on retaking this class regardless so hopefully it'll work out.

It just seems a bit silly is all.... and insecure.... however I do respect your dedication to fitness 👍

Thanks. I've only started fairly recently. As you can see I still have a long way to go lol.

Can you be banned on this forum for indecent exposure. If not, perhaps an amendment is necessary. While I won't go that far, he is a recent, more modest pick of myself.

I am secure about my body. Anyway back to the main topic...anyone ever retake a low grade and do poorly on the repeat (not A)? What would they think of this?

OH DEAR GOD! why are you covering your junk with a pillow?!? i def didn't notice in the avatar that you were sort of de-pantsed.

but to the topic, if you have to retake, you need to bust your de-pantsed butt and get an A. they'll expect it at that point. if you don't get the A, please don't beat yourself up over it though. there is more to life than grades!

chman , doublelayer , KeyzerSoze , The Poet Sings , YoungGregory

lurkers viewing this thread...Please contribute if you know what admissions would think if I retook a class and still didn't do well.

Also, stop checking out my avatar 😛

SDN isn't like a bodybuilding forum. While we'll say, good for you, youre not going to impress anyone with your avatar............getting > 40 on the MCAT now thats a different story. And the same about calling people out, just be respectful to people on the forum and they'll be happy to help you/answer any questions ( as long as yo use the search function first).

Its a little different here, but youll get used to it.

Good luck with finals

thanks for the advice. hopefully i can help others in the future than just taking all the help 😛

Good god. And here I was thinking that Chatroulette was the only place I'd get accosted by pictures of pantsless men. Put some pants on and retake your class, dear. Preferably in that order.
