Hi,

I am starting my last year of residency program. Going through research and teaching dental students, I realized that I am interested in an academic track as a faculty besides clinical practice. When is the best time to approach the faculty for such opportunities? Is there any skills/ general requirements that I need to keep in mind?

Thanks!

I am not on a faculty now, but I was once.

Approach them as soon as possible and let them know your interest.

Most programs with which I am familiar are keen for quality attendings.

I would say that there is a dearth of people who care about mentoring the next generation, and who are willing to join the noble pursuit of the academic world.

If you are keen to do it, make yourself known. Realize that you can go anywhere in the world to do this. There is that much need.
