a lot of people here have fakes and I want to get one but I am worried about getting caught and getting a felony for it and then not being able to get accepted anywhere. Do any of you guys have fakes? Is it worth the risk?

Also, what is the penalty for getting caught using someone else's ID (but not a fake)?
 
O I totally know a great place to get one. That back alley behind the Burger King. Or you could just drink the backwash out of the Old E 40's left there.

What possible advantage could be had from drinking/binging/entering clubs where the previous activities occur underage? There's nothing else you could be doing?
 
Depends.

Getting caught with a fake ID? No biggie. Depends on who catches you, but you'll be fine as long as you do what needs to be done after getting caught. (this is in CA of course)

Getting caught with a fake ID because you're going to bars and getting all drunk/violent/stupid? Could be an issue.
 
Definitely not worth it, you'll be 21 soon enough. Till then just take your chances getting an MIP 😉 I did lots of "special" ECs my first couple years of undergrand that never lead to any serious problems. Recently I had a couple friends get DUI's and now that their plans are essentially FU*#$# I can't even tell you how glad I am that nothing ever happened to me and I regret even putting myself in a position to jeopardize what I've worked so hard towards in undergrad. Think of all the study hours, tuition money, class hours you have put into things. That being said how much you want to gamble with it all just to have a good friday/saturday night is up to you 😀
 
I believe getting caught with a fake ID is a felony.
 
it depends where you get caught.

if at a bar/club, you will probably just get turned away, or even have the fake confiscated by the bouncer. they dont give enough of a sh1t about you to get the authorities involved, theyll just tell you to go away.

a liquor store may not be so nice. i would say getting caught here is the only way police would get involved (this is a brash generalization).
 
in my state (which is pretty conservative when it comes to drinking), it's a class 1 misdemeanor.

In some states both using fake IDs and using someone else's ID are felonies, as is tampering with your actual ID. Additionally, if you are using a fake ID to do underage drinking you are committing additional crimes. If you get caught, you will have a criminal record, which will come up either in the admissions process, or in subsequent licensing background checks. Doesn't seem worth it to me, even if the likelihood of getting caught is remote. But to each his own.
 
Seriously, if you need alcohol that badly that you want to get a fake ID, then you might want to consider AA.

I know 100's of people who had/have perfectly normal, happy and fullfilled lives and they didn't drink til they were 21 (or out of the country and legally able to drink).

Seriously, I have done a lot of international traveling and the thing that I like the most about the drinking there is that alcohol (in general) is no big deal. You are allowed to drink at younger ages and parents are normally cool about it and let you drink even younger, and in areas like this there tends to be less binge drinking and zero tolerance for driving after even 1 drink so less drinking related accidents.

No body needs a drink of alcohol--and if you do again, get yourself to AA!

Whoa, slow down - I don't think the OP needs to go to AA because of a fake ID.

(But hey, OP, it IS a stupid idea. Don't do it. Just drink underaged like 90%+ of us did, myself included.)

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to go get something to drink.

JK. Wait it out man, like this come your 21st you can actually celebrate. The novelty of drinking/ going out wears out quickly.

People can say what they want about this - I don't care. But, to the OP, what you really need to do is get a friend with a fake ID to mooch off of. Going to bars will become the same old, boring scene fast enough once you hit 21 - no need to go before then (you're not missing out). Like the rest of the undergrads, stick to the house/frat party scene until you're of age - just meet someone who can buy for you.

Oh please. God doesn't kill kittens every time an underage kid uses their fake ID. You're subverting a law that prevents people that are mature enough to be forced (by the draft) to take lives and are too irresponsible to drink a beer when they get home.
 
My sister had one that was someone elses for a bit until she just recently turned 21. Never had any problems from her using it even in liquor stores. Dont be ******ed and use an ID that says ur like 6 ft when ur really like 5' 8". They can tell ya know.

SDN is full of idealistic people that think that everything is great and anyone who does anything against the law is a bad person. Ignore them. Is it illegal? Yes. Will you get caught? Probably not. Does it make you an alcoholic or a bad person? No.

I would personally do what someone else said and find a friend with one that could get alcohol. That way ur in the clear no matter what.
 
Everyone's pretty much got it right. I wasn't the best of kids back in highschool and if you name it I pretty much did it. Looking back I can't help but think how big of an idiot I was. I got in trouble with the police on more than once occasion, but luckily got out of it by just having the parents called a few times (lol, I didn't think I was lucky at the time!). This meant I had nothing on my record but came extremely close to having my future ruined by a few dumb acts. Don't just think about the fun you'll have tomorrow night or this weekend, but about all the things you could be jeopardizing in your future. And that is end of my "think about your actions and consequences lecture." 🙂

Rule #1 of being a kid: Do the bad stuff that everyone else is doing, but nothing beyond that. If your friends all have fake IDs and are somehow not in a federal penitentiary, it's probably okay. If your friend is making fake IDs en masse and getting charged with "aiding terrorists" then you should probably let them go it alone.

I happen to have a friend who got in trouble for this not too long ago. He got caught trying to get into a bar with a fake. He got arrested and they took away his real driver's license for 6 months. So maybe don't do that. As they said, find someone to mooch off of.

I don't condone drinking. However, some people will not abstain. Telling the OP to go to AA if he can't resist having a few drinks in undergrad is absurd.

Class of '11: I've got a DUI conviction. The DUI is a first-time misdemeanor and will not effect... anything, really. Also, I got let off the hook for transportation and paraphenilia charges. Not to mention, I almost got HIV.

However, I was so lucky. As a result, I now abstain from all drugs and alcohol. I feel like I have the insight and a degree of introspection that matches/exceeds what many never achieve. I could have lost everything. Please, don't break the law in such a blatant way.

Having a few drinks in your dorm may not get you in trouble, but fake IDs are asking for trouble. I have never heard of someone getting a felony charge.

Have a conversation with you're chemistry and neuroscience professors about drinking alcohol, they can set you straight.

TO the OP, think long and hard about the cost/benefit analysis here. Cost: you might jeopordize your opportunity to get a medical license b/c of criminal record. Benefit: you can drink booze. Hmm, seems like a no brainer to me, but then again, I don't drink.

I had a fake at the age of 19, used it at a store and was caught by the police in sting of sorts. It was a misdemeanor charge and is on my record. It did not keep me out of medical school, but having to tell the school about it was scary. I actually ended up having to write a formal letter about it. My opinion is just wait until you are legal.
 
I dont think fake ids are really worth the money, I mean, how hard is it to get alcohol at college? I think the laws in my state, NC, state that most fake ID occurences can be charged as felonies. I'll admit that I have one, and I used it alot before college, but getting caught just is not worth it. The trick is to get an out of state id that does not actually resemble that state's id, and does not say "driver's license"; these kinds of cards are legal, unless you use them to buy alcohol 😉

Dunno about that, a lot of bouncers/cashiers are more suspicious of out of state IDs, particularly if it's far away. I got my ACTUAL ID (Minnesota) taken away once at a liquor store and had to call the cops myself to get it back...thank you NJ cops!

But in any case I've never, ever heard of a college age student being charged for using a fake ID. They just get their IDs taken and thats that.
 
2 things...

1) This is one of the most ******ed questions ive ever read on here, and ive read some pretty dumb ones before

2) Take a 21 year old friends birth certificate and school ID, go to the DMV (or secretary of state where I'm from), say you lost your ID...end result = 21 year old "real" ID with your picture.

screw it...ill make a 3.

3) Ur in college aren't you? Sounds like you won't be drinking until AFTER you're accepted to med school. relax, have fun, just dont be stupid. U can drink just dont drive while doing it. a little common sense goes a long way.
 
Don't use a "Fake" id, use a friends old one if they resemble you enough.

I worked the door at a club for a long time, and I don't recall ever calling the police when I got a fake (which was common), or charging anybody for that matter. What I did really depended. If they were particularly nice for some reason (or hot) I would just give it back so the cops could go bust them at some other bar. If they were an ***, it was a particularly crappy fake, or if I was having a bad day I would keep it (most of the time I kept it). When they wouldn't let the whole matter go and complained about how I couldn't keep it, I would tell them "F*** you, call the cops then." Ahh, fond memories as a bouncer/babysitter for inebriated adults...brings a tear to me eye :cry:

bad idea. you will get charged with identity theft for using someone elses ID. its worse than using a fake one.

but yeah, i would generally say its worth getting a fake ID, but not worth paying more than 100 dollars for one. Just be smart about it- don't carry it around when your not planning on using it. if your buying beer/liquor always survey the scene for cops and have a bag ready for you when you leave the store etc...
 
If you guys haven't noticed underaged drinking charges are not something the police aggressively pursue. Stretched city cops have better things to do with their time... Some of you are making it sound like the guys from CSI are going to hunt you identity-stealing self. You have a fake ID the worst that is going to happen to you is that the place you are buying from is going to take your ID and keep it. End of story.

I've seen it happen - in Texas it's a $500 fine and another relatively obligatory $500 fine because they usually let you buy alcohol before nabbing you. They're tickets (no arrest), but I assume they'd still show up on a background check.

I lived in texas for almost 10 years and know people who work clubs down there and I've never heard of that happening. Hell there are plenty of places I can think of off the top of my head where you can buy alcohol without so much as the clerk looking at you twice.
 
I've never seen anyone get into any major trouble for a fake. The worst I've seen was a refusal of service.
 
yeah, rereading this thread, some of the responses of people are alarming. especially the one equating having a fake ID to cheating on the mcat.

Getting a fake ID is no big deal as long as a police officer doesn't see it. As someone said earlier, if you go to a bar and they know your ID is fake, they usually just keep it or give it back to you and turn you away. And if they do all the cops (which I have never seen happen), just leave. It's not like a bouncer is going to hold you, they don't really care that much.

Just make sure if you do get a fake ID, don't accidentally show it to a cop if you get pulled over. Also, don't show it to a cop if you are caught with alcohol. MIP > felony for fake ID.
