Hello all. I hope Spring break was enjoyable for you guys. I'm so NOT ready to go back to school, I had such a great spring break. I seriously don't feel like going back to school, but I need to suck it up. Only a little over a month left, so its not that bad. (but I'm doing summer school, ugh) My misery never ends lol.

Anywho I turned 20 about a month ago, and I've been thinking I really need a job. Not only for the money, but also just for experience. I usually work for my parents during the summer, but I think I should branch out. I've been thinking about working at Chase since its close to my campus.

Every time I think about a job, I think about all the free time I'd be giving up and how I wouldn't be able to do certain things anymore.

No more Spring Break
I wouldn't get a month off for Christmas
I couldn't just up and go home if I wanted.
Would lose study time

Then I think what about just getting an on campus job, that would be a little better.

I just don't know, I'm growing up. I need to start making some choices for myself without my parents telling me.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

umm... Welcome to being an adult? Sometimes you have responsibilities.

Not sure what else you want us to say. You're over 18; you're supposed to be an adult. Sometimes you can't have everything. We all have to make sacrifices. It's part of being "grown up."

If you're needing the job to pay off school, then a campus job would not be ideal because most of them pay minimum wage. Chase would work if you could land a job.

If you're just needing some spending money, then a campus job would definitely be better than non-campus. I'd really try to find a job in a lab because you'd gain research experience and flexible working hours (e.g. school breaks).

@music2doc Yeah, I understand what you are saying.

Did you have a job in undergrad? How did you balance things?

EDIT: @Danlee07 My parents give me a certain amount of money per month, but lately it hasn't been going very far. Gas and food are super expensive. This job would be just for some extra spending money.

if you can deal with being a "bad guy," getting in arguments, death threats, water balloons throw at you when you put on the boot, and getting yelled at, look into a job with parking services on your campus. giving out tickets is a chill job, you have autonomy to drive around to whatever lot you want and generally can set your own hours, and also the pay is like $5 an hour more than most types of on-campus gigs, which really ads up.

plus, no more tickets fo yoself 😉 #takingcareof#1

Work at a place where you can hit on girls. Then, your job can become your pass time.

OP, while I was in UG, I worked on campus as an RA. You do lose the ability to go home on some weekends, but it allowed me to still study even while on duty. It also gave me experience with having a leadership role and working with diverse groups of people (great EC).
