I'm applying to summer research positions, and I'm having trouble getting the letters of reference. I had previous research experience, and I had my mentor write me a letter for other things. Can I just ask her to copy this letter to the programs I am applying to? There are like 7 programs. I feel really bad that she has to send it to all these different programs. I wish I had others to ask, but I really don't feel like many of my professors from school could write me a strong letter. I do need one from a professor, so I guess I'm going to have to ask one. Is it rude to continuously ask the same person for multiple letters over a few years?

No, it's not rude. Preferably, you don't want to apply to too many different kinds of programs and need a letter for very different purposes. But in your case, it sounds like the content of your letter is roughly the same. If you can help her expedite the process, such as providing pre-addressed envelopes, that would be a plus. Offer your help and she will let you know if she can/wants to use it.
