i have to say that i love SDN (especially the pre-dent section, of course), but WOW does it give me anxiety sometimes!

first of all, i am taking my DAT september 25th (new date, i had been scheduled for aug 28th but really need the extra month). this is mainly because i had switched from pre-med to pre-dent and had started studying for the MCAT but changed my mind obviously. i had to spend a big chunk of time shadowing, too.

even though the school deadlines are nov at the extreme earliest, and most are literally in january, reading the posts here freaks me out. i submitted my app at the beginning of july, but obviously they arent going to fully consider it until my DAT in late sept. all my secondary stuff is in. i am just afraid that im going to be considered late and not have good chances, even though the deadlines are in the winter.

i guess i want to know what you guys think my chances are? haha how cliche, i know, but i really am nervous. i do think im kind of a unique applicant tho. you can click on my pre-dent profile and see, but basically i have a 4.5 year old daughter and i went through college in a single parent program with her (i had her right before i turned 18). so everything (extracurriculars, etc) that i have done/accomplished has been while simultaneously raising her pretty much on my own (my family lives across the country).

soooo any advice or input would be very much appreciated. 🙂

btw, i just want this entire process to be OVER.

I'm with you in the September DAT-taking group. I think we're okay, but I'll keep telling myself that even if I'm wrong, because the nightmares I've been having aren't fun. They usually involve me receiving one big letter representing rejections from every school I've applied to (the schools all get together and decide that this is the most eco-friendly way to inform me).

You've got a great story that I hope you've included in your personal statement. To be able to finish undergrad while raising a child really tells someone what kind of motivation you've got. Your chances? I'd say pretty good.

I met a pre-dent student who as a mother of four (although she was probably in her 30s) so going through dental school with a child/children can be done!

good to know there are other september MCAT takers! 😀

and razblo, thanks for the encouragement! i have a lot of support and have gotten this far just fine, so i know i would be able to do it. 🙂 i just hope i actually get in!

Hehe, I'm sure there's still time to get rid of those pre-med unconscious thoughts! ;p

Anyways, from your stats, accomplishments, and having finished all of your application so early, as long as you do decently on the DAT, I think you still stand a good shot of getting in. Many schools have interviews that go into the Spring, and all of my interviews were February or later because I took the DAT and applied so late (November). You're in a much better boat than I was, and I'd say it would be very possible that you could still get some pre/early-December interviews.

Good luck, keep up the hard work, and I'm sure one day, your daughter will be very proud of the effort you've given to get where you're going. 🙂
