So a program emailed me an IV, but asked me to email them back if interested where we would then "further discuss" scheduling. So I did 1 hour after they sent the email the same day. Only contact info provided was an email, and no phone #. That was over 30 hours ago, and I still have yet to hear a response from the contact person. Now I am sure I got the email address correct, and although NO phone # was provided in the email, I found their phone # listed elsewhere on the residency webpage.

Is it appropriate to call to confirm receipt of my email, or am I jumping the gun on this? Is it common / not unheard of for some programs to delay getting back to applicants they invite for an interview? I am just worried they will get annoyed if I call.:scared:

LOL, calm down 🙂 30 hours is not a long time. Some programs have taken several days to reply to me and confirm a date. The coordinators are very busy and are juggling a lot of emails. Give it until mid next week and then send up a nice follow up email. They arent going to not interview you.. so relax 🙂

LOL, I know I know. Just seems weird as with all my other invites the coordinators responded promptly the same day. Its pathology, so it doesn't strike me that they have a large amount of applicants to deal with compared to other specialties...

If you haven't heard back by this morning CALL! I found an interview acceptance in my spam folder two days after it was sent, and only because the applicant called when she didn't hear back from me with a final confirmation. By that time, her first-choice date was already full, and I felt horrible about it since the date wasn't full when she originally sent the email.

I didn't hear back from a program until almost 4 days later. I got my 2nd choice in interview dates, but this struck me as odd considering I responded to the email invite like 30 mins after it was sent. Next time I'm going to give it 2 days and then call.

I ended up hearing back that very morning, fortunately. The program arranging hotel reservations might have delayed the response it seems. If anything like that happens again I'll definitely give them a call sooner rather than later.

I think that emailing is best initially but if you have not heard back within a day, I suggest calling. Sometimes program coordinators are slammed with emails, paperwork etc - and they may not be able to respond to all emails promptly. Sometimes a gentle call letting them know you realize how busy they are but would appreciate being able to schedule your interview will get a receptive response. Also if you let too much time elapse, your preferred date may be gone.
