Due to the logistics of medical school and my wife's masters program I will have a lag year before matriculating. I am able to graduate right now with a BS in Human Biology; I just have to submit the papers. However, I am developing an interest in philosophy. Would med schools frown upon my obtaining ANOTHER undergraduate degree? I mean, I would have WELL over 150 undergraduate credits! Doesn't that make me seem a bit stupid.

I thought about doing a masters but I don't have two years (and the college has assured me that their programs cannot be condensed any further).

So what do you guys think? Could this be seen in a positive light when I apply? Or will I stand out like a 30 year old in kindergarten?

Eh - I used up my scholarship money by getting two degrees. I doubt that it will be looked upon favorably or unfavorably. If you're really interested - go for it. One of my biggest regrets is not taking more philosophy courses.

There are 12 month special masters programs if I remember correctly.

Yes, but not in my area apparently. All of these require a one semester thesis which puts the entire program at 1.5 yrs.

Not all of them....and move for a year. That or actually have a life outside of medicine for a year..... 🙂

What is this ...this "life" that you speak of? Will it help me get in? Do medical schools want me to have a "life" on my CV!?! 😱

Point taken.
