Does anyone know how I can get the AOA to approve an ACGME transitional year? The city in which I am considering doing my residency (in radiology) does not have any rotating osteopathic internships. The institution that I am interviewing at for residency has offered me a chance to interview for their MD transitional year. It seems pretty flexible and I think I could use my electives to satisfy the AOA's requirements. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

you need to call the AOA an ask to speak with Verna Bronersky.

she is the one who helps to make the rules on internship. she will give you all the requirements based on the resolutions.

you will find that these requirements are extremely ambiguous and not easily navigated. i would strongly consider whether or not you will ever be wanting to practice in any of the 5 states with the internship rule. if you can avoid this hassle, then do so and simply go MD.

good luck!
