I noticed 29 people from the SMP last year ended up at Georgetown, and around 50% are usually interviewed. For anyone who has experience with the SMP, what seperates the applications of those who are accepted to Georgetown? Good undergrad GPAs? High MCATs? Stellar performance in the SMP?

I have yet to take the MCAT, but have a 3.55 GPA and BCPM and would love to go to Georgetown SOM.

Thanks

Why would you go to a SMP with those numbers? With a strong MCAT, you would have a decent shot of getting in without spending the money to do an SMP and assuming all the risks that go along with it.

I would apply to the SMP as a back up while applying to medical schools. If I didn't get in anywhere, then this would be a good option.

i know this is an old thread, but i'd love to hear what any gtown SMP survivors/current gtown SOM students have to say about this.

Yeah, I'm replying to an old thread, but I'd second this...

Thanks!

I think I already replied to similar in other threads, but there are basically 2 smp gpa screens, and after that who knows.

Top 70ish smp grades will get interviews. Word on the street was that there was a 2ary post-interview smp gpa screen.

My completely anecdotal observation about the rest of the accepts is that good clinical xp was a major thing the adcoms looked for. So, the ideal Gtown smp -> GUSOM student would be a ~3.75 smp gpa, 1-2 years of great clinical xp, possibly non-cali student.
