Hello everyone. I am very happy to have found this community. I have been reading through many posts and they were generous and helpful. Just like everyone else, I am extremely afraid of the admission process. I know so many have posted about their chances of getting in but after receiving my first rejection letter, I am having second thoughts.
My CUM GPA: ~3.0 (from couple colleges)
Pre-req GPA: quite low (retaking A & P I&II plus English 2 in progress; retaking stats and intro to soc in Spring 2013)
Last 45 GPA: 3.25
OT experience: 21 hours inpatient rehab, 42 in special ed school, 40 hours school-therapy, starting another placement soon
Volunteer/Work: 252 hours internship with adults with dev disabilities, 45 hours with PT, science program instructor for children for ~ 5 years, currently an after-school program mentor at a middle school
Extra-Curr: Varies leadership roles; started and led a campus organization that spread awareness on disabilities
I went through difficult adjustment period during my freshman year, thus, this negatively impacted my GPA and had to withdraw for a semester due to a medical emergency. I also have mild auditory and visual disabilities. My personal statement explains these issues but I hope my unique background and overcoming my disabilities will put me on the advantage since that's what OT is about!
I am working very hard to improve my GPAs. In fact, I'm doing very well in current pre-req courses and was thinking to wait until the end of this semester to send out final transcript with the new grades. I hope my application won't be considered late.
Since I have not taken GRE (not a good test taker and wouldn't want to spend extra money) these are the schools I am applying to:
Chatham
Pacific
Creighton
Towson
USP
UIndy - rejected 🙁
Bay Path or Springfield?
OT is in my heart as it's what I want to do for the rest of my life. Seeing how competitive admission has become is leaving me with no hope. I want to do anything in my power to improve my chance at getting admitted. Comments on my stats and/or colleges listed are greatly appreciated!
