Can this be done? I want to find a way for my wife to stay at home with our baby and there is no way possible based on the budhget from the school.

Yes, it can be done, but it's generally not advisable. I would first go to your FA office and tell them that the budget that they calculated will not be enough for your situation. If they aren't able to help you, there are banks that offer you private loans that have much higher fees and interest rates associated with them. It's not advisable that you take these loans because of their costs associated with them, but if you absolutely need to, then they are always an option.

if you are a us citizen being married with a child might qualify you for government assistance...how much depends on which state you live in. i don't know much about it, but have seen it written about on the dental board. there are students who have child/children that qualify for rental assistance/medical insurance/food stamps, etc. these do not have to be paid back. if you are like most middle class people, you probably never have considered government assistance, but if you qualify, maybe you should.

I heartily agree with you dentalmom. I don't think there's anything to feel funny about, THAT is what the program is intended for- people who are TRULY in need. And since you've been paying into it all your working life, it's about time you get some of it back!
