I'm going to be married on 30MAY and start internship on 9-10JUN.
Has anybody else been married so close to the beginning of active duty?
Have there been any issues with moving?
Besides advising me not to get married, any pieces of advice I should know?

thanks

The problem will be if you are flying to your new duty station. You will need to contact personnel and get your spouse added as a dependant so you can get tickets. If you are driving, not as big an issue as you will be seeking reimbursment vice something in advance. There will be a change in weight limit for moving, but you probably will not get close to the single limit much less married limit.

Same situation here - active duty 1 June, wedding ceremony 29 April.

The HRC command people had already demonstrated their ineptitude, so there was no way I was going to trust them to amend my orders in that 4+ week period to get my wife PCS'd with me.

We went to the court house late January and I was able to get her on my original orders. Even with doing it ahead of time, my orders still came months late and screwed up.

Now, I do not know the reasons surrounding this instance, but going on a honeymoon during orientation might be a valid excuse for coming late to orientation. you don't get paid for the days you miss, but if that's a concern of yours, talk to the GME coordinator at your program.

Good luck on that one..:laugh: Only reason I know people are allowed to miss orientation is because they are at OIS/OCS/OBC.

I would have to concur with the basic consensus on this thread. The problem you are running into is the time it takes to get the military to recognize that you have dependents. As soon as you have that marriage certificate go to you local active duty post and sign her up in DEERS. It SHOULD be quick and easy but...

Absolutely concur. No way is a honeymoon a valid excuse. Honeymoons are a luxury, not a necessity.

a fellow intern of mine is doing just that and arriving late. heard it from her and the GME office. I did not make that up.

Although in a reality they really aren't... Maybe you should consider moving the wedding back so that there is time for the honeymoon. I suppose all of the reservations have been made though?

maybe your honeymoon could be more of a pre-wedding celebration 😉

here's the timeline...

30may - wedding
1-8jun - honeymoon
10jun - report to jax...

i was just wondering if the move will be a pain in the ***...

i figure it'd be ok as all the USNA get married the day of their grad

No disrespect intended but seriously... aren't they all?

I have never taken part in a move that went completely smoothly.

As for your situation, I would speculate that having a nice wedding/honeymoon, however, is more important than being stressed over a move for a few days... it will be a shocker after a nice honeymoon though

Best of luck to you!
