I am wondering how feasible it is to schedule a wedding in September of intern year--of course, having not matched yet, it's hard to know if the place I'll be will be fleixble in the early months and thus I have a hard time guaranteeing my availability. Anyone know ways around this? Should I just pick a date and go for it, and then the day of the Match call the program and put in this request immediately? Will that work??

Yes, that will work. Although, why not just get married in May or early June since you'll have it off?

seriously not possible. wont have enough time--trust me, I'd prefer that also.
so you don't anticipate programs would give me a hard time about this? we dont want to wait too far into the fall

I can't anticipate anything honestly. I mean, what do you want me to tell you? Either you set a date now and make a request to have that weekend off on Match Day, or you wait until you get your intern year schedule and then shoehorn it in somewhere, recognizing that you may have to wait or have it on a Tuesday afternoon.

FWIW, I requested time off at the end of August my intern year to go to somebody else's wedding and got my vacation week then. No big deal. YMMV of course but whatever. Don't schedule it for Labor Day and you should be fine. It's time to be a grownup and make some life decisions.

Or you could end up like an intern I know who was able to swing two days off for his wedding. Went back to wards immediately afterwards.

Some programs have more flexibility than others...

usually programs will send a email out asking for the dates that you want for vacation…and to give a reason if there is one.

getting married is a good one, but realized that what little vacation time you get, and good portion of it will be used if you take say a week or 2 off for the wedding and honeymoon early and you will have a very loooong intern year without much break later in the year…which can be difficult.

of course this will be specialty dependent and program dependent…programs that are larger, less intern dependent it will be easier.
you may actually want to combine it with a holiday that you would get off to save some days (but realize you may have to work one of the bigger holidays to get that deal).

I'm honestly willing to work ANY holiday including multiple holidays if I can get this time off. My family isn't big on Christmas so I'll pretty much always be willing to work those days since I know they are valuable. Thanks for your input
