getting out of contract

Hello, I was wondering how tough it is to get out of your contract before you begin. I matched to an osteopathic EM program and have since decided that I want to go into Family Medicine. I found a program with an open spot and submited a new application on ERAS and am waiting for the PD to get back into town. I have obviously signed my contract for the EM residency but I noticed that there was a page on the back for mutual release from contract. Anyone have experience getting released from their contract before beginning? Anyone interested in an osteopathic EM residency and Ill pass your name along to my EM PD?

I know someone last year who matched into EM at an osteopathic program and did an optho rotation after the match contract was signed, decided she loved optho, did a research year in optho and got out of her contract. I don't know the specifics, but it's doable, at least it was for her.

I was wondering if you were able to get out of your contract. I am in a similar situation except that I don't want to change specialties, this has to do with location and the need for me and my partner to remain together. Can you give me some advice? Thanks.

i'm also trying to switch program but not specialty to be closer with family. it's hard to go about it. I even signed up for residentswap and have not heard from them regarding possible swaps.
