Getting out of hospitalist contract before start date

Hi guys need a bit of advice here..i signed a hospitalist contract that doesnt start until july, but now i want out as i am realizing i rushed and want out...is it bad if i start going on interviews with other groups now? What can happen if i break contract before i even start?

Your contract should have a clause for terminating the contract without cause. Usually written, X days notice, and to whom it needs to go. As long as you're at least X days out, should be fine.

Shouldn't be a problem. Tell them now.

We have had several people back out before the start date. It's a pain in the butt but we would rather have a happy employee rather than someone who views the job as a "mistake" for them. Tell them asap and they will most likely work with you.

As someone else mentioned, you should have a clause to end the contract without cause.
