Hi all. I am from Texas but went to school at a UC school and spent my gap year doing research there. I have never liked Texas growing up and my plan for med school was to stay in California or go to the east coast. However, my cycle didn't work out and I ended up having to come back to Texas for med school. I have begun my first year and I'm already worried my Texas residency is going to affect me for when I apply to residency, which I would like to do in the east coast or California, not in Texas. What tips can you guys give me to increase my chances of landing an OOS residency? I was planning on doing away rotations for sure, but besides killing my Step 1 and getting great LORs and great clinical grades, what else can I do? Really worried I'll be stuck in Texas forever. I am attending UTSW so I'm hoping the prestige of the institution will also assist in any form. Thanks!
