hey you future doctors out there. if I keep downing vitamin C drops will my horrible cold that is keeping me up at this god-forsaken hour go away by this coming saturday which is my birthday? I'm desperate for relief. 🙁

if you still don't feel better cowgirl, IMO down some echinacea quick. I prefer it to taking medications...(I'm not the medication type) and it really works.

Ahhh! I'm a nutrition/biochem major and popping vitamin C (or anything water soluble) like it's your job can be really tough on your kidneys! Take it easy on those...

Have a nap.

Cold-Eeze works really well for me (it's a form of zinc, but only name-brand Cold-Eeze works for me for whatever reason).

I second that. It REALLY works, but you must take it on a full stomach, or else you'll throw up.

I learned that the hard way.
🙄

there's zero evidence that vitamin c works, and some evidence that it doesn't.

thank you for the advice guys. On behalf of my sore throat and everything that's leaking in my body right now I thank you. 🙂

Lots of Bed rest / sleep. Vit C/ Zn / Echin etc not clinically proven.

Try trad chick soup, miso soup, warm saline gargle for sore throat, tea with honey, Contac day & night Non drowsy, Kleenex with Aloe.

👍

Start liquoring it up Stat. Nothing like a nice whiskey induced hangover to make you forget all about your head cold 👍

Altoids do wonders for clearing the nose.

very true. i, however, prefer a steaming bowl of chinese hot and sour soup (especially if a place makes if extra hot/spicy). if you still have drainage after that, you should probably start gargling solvents like acetone.

so do you actually stuff them up your nose? i have heard you can roll up those paper thin mint thingies and stick those up your nose for a real menthol treat.

haha, i don't know about sticking them up your nose, but sticking them on your tongue or on the roof of your mouth definitely clears things up!

also, wasabi is good for clearing up your sinuses

hope you feel better!

The form of zinc in Cold-Eeze is clinically proven. So is chicken soup. 🙂

good luck getting over your cold, cowgirl!

Now, there's an idea. I have only tried Altoids in my mouth, but I'll bet that the effects would be more pronounced in the booger-pits. Hmm.

these are the type of medical questions my friends and family ask me. "I'm not a doctor yet. I have no freakin clue on what to do, alright. If you want me to take an OChem examiniation for you, I can do that."

calm down. I wasn't expecting doctor-worthy answers. I was just wondering what others thought about the "remedy" I was using (whether it had worked for them) and what other things may have worked for them that may also work for me.

i heard of some studies that show vitC does nothing, although it may do some good simply as a kind of psychological boost...

coldeeze and chicken soup works good for me, and i also drink a lot of green tea... most important tho, in my experience, has been sleep.

Cold-Eze and Dayquil...miracle package for combating colds. And if mom is nearby, Mom's chicken soup.

I am simply relating a story that came to mind after reading your post. I had no intention of insulting your post...now, did you want the answers to that Ochem test or not? 🙂-)
