I've heard that getting rejected from a medical school hurts your chances for re-applying the next time around? I know that you need to improve something about your application if you get rejected but let's say you get rejected because you just applied too late and there aren't enough spots to give you an interview. Will getting rejected from a school hurt your chances of getting an interview if you apply early the next time around?

No, it doesn't hurt your chances, per se. As you noted, reapplying without doing anything to improve your app isn't good, but assuming you continue to work at it, you have an excellent chance as a reapplicant. If nothing else, you're proving your dedication to the field in a way that no first-time applicant can. Check out the reapplicants forum for info and inspirational stories.
