Getting smacked around by DAT Achiever?

Hey guys,

Was hoping for some advice- my DAT is in 3 weeks and I've gotten a 20 on my last TopScore practice test (2 weeks ago) and I just bought the DAT Achiever 5 test package and got an 18AA,18TS,17PAT on the first exam and a 16AA,16TS,15PAT on the 4th test 🙁🙁


I skipped around from test 1 to test 4 because I heard tests 4 and 5 are a lot harder, and that DAT Achiever is just all around a lot harder? Any reassurance would be helpful 😕

from what i hear/see around here...yup..DAT acheiver is def a lot harder than the others...everyone always says if youre hitting the "magic number 16 - youre good"....a 20 in topscore means youre in great shape too 👍

DAT Achiever is significantly harder than the real DAT from my own experience. I stopped Achiever altogether and switched to TopScore, which was far more indicative of my actual performance come exam time. Don't be discouraged by Achiever though! I did terrible on my first one and did much better on the real exam.

I wouldn't fret about your score, focus on what you did wrong though. I've never used Achiever but frrom what I hear, Achiever is WAY harder than the real DAT and harder than Top Score. I would just keep chugging away though, keep up the practice problems, even if you're just redoing Destroyer for the billionth time. It all pays off.

i personally used destroyer while i was prepping for the DAT and i was gettin similar scores as you. dont mess with topscore, keep using achiever. its tough as hell but it prepares you mentally. dont do just enough, exceed the expectations. but thats just my opinion on achiever. ive heard topscore is MUCH more similar and i would personally only use topscore within the last week of prep. save a achieverfor the last week just to keep that intensity up

in my expereince, i finished the NS section in 45 min. so i sat there and reviewed for another 20 min and still have about 20 min to spare. achiever will do that for u, topscore wont

Achiever is meant to smack you around. That being said, don't let it mess with your confidence - go over all the questions you got wrong or guessed on and learn from them. Think, "oh, I'm glad I got this wrong now so I don't screw it up on the real DAT."

And I disagree with the fact that Achiever 4-5 are better because they're 'extra hard' I think tests 1-3 are perfect for challenging yourself and learning. 4-5 are just mean and too hard. If they're testing material that's not going to be on the DAT (aka, too hard), then what's the point.

I wouldn't go with the mentality to just not do achiever because it's way too hard. When I was studying, achiever really helped to show me areas of weakness. Answering the questions correctly is great but it's the wrong ones that will really help you to destroy the real DAT. I score about 7 points higher on my actual DAT compared to my achiever scores 😀

I took both top score and achiever btw. Achiever kept me on my toes, top score made me a little to relaxed due to the 20+ scores I received. Hope that helps 🙂

Is the DAT Achiever's reading comprehension comparable? Like similar?

my understanding is that Achiever's best strength is its PAT Section, and I heard that its bio solutions are good

It's far more difficult so do not worry! The passages are much denser and the questions were really difficult. I was constantly getting 15's in Achiever reading and got 21 on the real thing. As has been said many times, Achiever really thickens your skin
