I'm volunteering in the hospital pharmacy. There's about 2 different pharmacists that I see each week. But other than hi and bye, I don't get to talk to them much. Basically it's because I do my work in the back while they work in the front.

How do you guys suggest I get to know them more ? (b/c i'm hoping to ask for a LOR) Should I just come up and say straight out that I'm interested in pharmacy and it'd be great if I can talk to them about the profession? lol

thank you everyone!!

Yeah, just go up to them and talk to them :] .. I'll admit, I was pretty shy back when I was volunteering in a hospital pharmacy and I never gathered up the courage to talk to the pharmacists there (minus one, who was very open to talking to me). After or before your shift, just start up a conversation :]

I wouldn't recommend getting an LOR from people you don't know.. it seems like your conversations are rather brief. You want to get an LOR from people who you are closer with, who know your strengths, seen you grow, etc.. If you can get closer with them over a period of time so that they know more about you, it'll be much better than if you were to ask them for an LOR and gave them your resume.

Unless they are actively talking to you/guiding you/overseeing your work, it may not be the best choice to ask them for an LOR.

I got one from my supervisor who I work closely with, when volunteering. I talk to all the pharmacists, most of them wanted to know me better o.o, we usually talk about chinese people and korean people . When I have a lunch break, I go and talk to one of them, I asked her to write it, she wanted to, but she was too busy, in the end I had my supervisor write it.

^ thanks guys!
should i just be straightforward and say Im interested in applying to pharm school so that I could find something to talk to them about (like ask about their job, how they decided to be a pharmacist, ect...)?

really? the first thing they ask me was if I was a pharmacy student. what was my name. if I planned to go into pharmacy school, and if so, where o.o

^ lol yeh none of the pharmacists here pay attention to me and the other volunteers. we just all do our own work :[[

Sit with them at lunch. All kinds of interesting conversations go on at the lunch table.
