I'll be finishing residency in June. I feel sooo tired. Job is lined up. After 4 years of current residency, a few years of previous residency due to specialty switch, previous master's, research, med school, undergrad, I feel like I have no steam left. I feel that these last few months are just never going to end. I keep looking at the calendar and hoping the days go faster. I'm trying to do fun things to make the time pass faster when finished with the work day - whether it be dining, movies, travel, shopping, etc. it seems like the weeks take forever to go by. What do I do!

How much time are you taking off before you start your new job? Will you have to move far for this job?

I feel you, as do tons of others on SDN. Residency can feel like a total rat race with tons of hours, tests, shouting matches etc... but the light is at the end of the tunnel.

What do you do? Finish. You’re so close! I know you aren’t working every weekend - get out of dodge and see somewhere else, use all your remaining vacation (if any is left) and spend some evenings completely away from the clinical realm. Time might crawl, but remember each day is one day closer to the end of the line.

I know, it just seems like the days go on forever. I am not working on weekends at all this year, but have to do a bunch of things - study for boards, sell my house, find movers, do credentialing (ahhhh!!) so even though the clinical aspect of residency is not that bad per se, it just seems like I'm always doing something. I literally did nothing on Sunday this past weekend - I just sat in front of Netflix with my dogs and watched tv all day! I felt super refreshed on the following Monday lol.

As someone taking oral boards in the next 24 hours, I am very jealous and look forward to weekends of Netflixing with the wife, dog and baby!

Go visit a friend in a neighboring city/state if you can!

Congrats! This is awesome. Do you remember when you were a teenager and you dreamed of being a doctor? You are almost there! Have fun! Life's much better as an attending!
