Hi,
I have an opportunity to do research under a GI oncosurgeon who also heads a GI cancer research center that is a team of medical oncologists, pathologists, gastroenterologists etc
I would love to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology and also in GI oncology after IM residency .

Would this research and his LOR help me with my Residency and fellowship ?
Kindly share your suggestions.

Thanks a lot.

If it helps you come into contact with academic gastroenterologists and get you some publications then definitely it will help you in future for fellowship.

Residency is more dependent on other variables like USMLE scores, year of graduation, letters of recommendation, clinical experience in USA (in case you are foreign graduate) and probably a little bit of research experience.
So this decision depends on how your overall profile look. Research is a good thing!!! The only thing is that u need to analyze the timing and your circumstances

Thank you so much . I appreciate it.
