For those that have FA 2010

On Page 307 it describes the portal system.

What does "Portal <-> Systemic" implying?

So if you have portal HTN, that will cause backup into your left gastric vein giving you varices. That makes sense

How do the Left Gastric Vein and Esophageal vein relate to each other?

yea its implying that with portal HTN, you'll get a back up. Because those veins listed anastamose, youll get blood going from portal to systemic, which is why you see the symptoms that they list on that page.

the superficial veins of the esophagus drain into the left gastric vein.
