If you were given the option to list your class rank or not in your Dean's letter, what do you think a good cutoff rank is?

For example:
Anything above 30%, you should list it.

I would only list the exact class rank if above 10-15%. Otherwise, quartiles are fine.

The only options are "Yes" and "No" on the form.

I would say no. I'm guesing your letter will still say you are in the top 50%, but not give your exact class rank, correct?

top 50% (could mean 26% or 49%....) + great Step 1 score

is better than

36.5% + great Step 1 score

is better than

36.5% + medicore Step 1 (below the average of whatever speciality you're applying into)

I would go ahead and put it. At least you're above average, which should only help you. I don't see how it could hurt you.
