Sorry I couldn't figure out what to title this, but basically, I've been working in a lab for more than 2.5 years now. This upcoming week will be my last..am I supposed to just thank my PI (she's just so amazing) or do you guys actually give some kind of card/gift? Does my question makes sense?

I've done this before! I left a lab after working there for about a year and I gave the assistant professor I worked with and the PI both personalised thank you cards (I included a picture of us). Maybe give a token that they can keep around (a nice, meaningful quote? a picture of you two?), because you interacted so much together.

Is you giving her a gift appropriate? You worked away in her lab for 2.5 for free/at minimal cost...

I don't know if a gift is at all necessary.

The mentorship I have received from my PI has really transformed me. When I leave, I have to present both my PI(s) and postdoc with gifts--hopefully money.

You can give a gift. I gave mine a bottle of champagne when I graduated.

My department was cool with alcohol on-campus, so don't get yourself in trouble.

Box of Godiva chocolates - always a great gift that's gender neutral. That and a handwritten thank you card showing your gratitude for their mentorship to your growth as a future doctor.

A bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label would suffice since in my experience a good bottle of scotch is much appreciated (especially since many of them are closet alcoholics)

I got a Johnnie Walker Black for my PI and a Johnnie Walker Gold for a professor who I knew for a few years and really went out of his way to help me out. It's not necessary but I did it because I appreciated what they did for me.
